About 2026 Chat

A small team that believes meeting strangers online shouldn't be complicated, expensive, or sketchy.

How This Started

The idea came from a pretty ordinary frustration. Most video chat platforms were either cluttered with ads, required accounts with 15-step verification, or felt like they hadn't been updated since 2015. We wanted something simple. Click a button, see a face, have a conversation.

So we built it. The first version went live in early 2024 with barely any features — just a Start button and a Next button. Turns out that's all most people actually need. The rest grew from there based on what users told us they wanted.

What We Care About

Simplicity First

Every feature we add has to pass one test: does this make the experience simpler or more complicated? If it adds friction, it doesn't ship. The best product is one you don't need instructions for.

Real Safety

Not just a checkbox in our terms of service. We run content moderation that actually works, respond to reports within hours, and continuously improve our filtering systems. Keeping people comfortable is non-negotiable.

Free Access

Video chat should be available to everyone, not just people willing to pay a monthly subscription. The core experience will always be free. Full stop.

Where We Are Now

2026 Chat connects people from over 190 countries. On any given evening, there are somewhere between 10,000 and 18,000 people online at the same time. That number keeps growing, mostly through word of mouth — someone has a good conversation, tells a friend, and that friend shows up the next day.

We're a small team. Not a massive corporation with layers of management and quarterly board meetings. That means we move fast, fix things quickly, and actually read the feedback people send us. If you've ever emailed a company and gotten a "we appreciate your feedback" auto-reply followed by complete silence — that's not us.

What's Next

We're working on better matching options for people who want them, improved mobile performance, and some accessibility features that are overdue. We're not chasing trends or trying to bolt on features that don't fit. The core product is a simple video chat, and everything we build supports that.

If you've got ideas, complaints, or just want to tell us about a great conversation you had — we're listening. Seriously.

See for yourself what we've built.
